What Is Mesothelioma?

There is a thin protective layer that covers inner body organs as this disease affects malignant cells developed in this layer. There are many body organs which can be affected by this kind of cancer; most commonly it affects outer layer of lungs and inner walls of chest called pleura. It can also affect internal line of cavity of abdominal portion called peritoneum; heart can also get affected along with tunica virginals.
Mesothelioma is very common in people who work in such an environment where they have great interaction with asbestos, so it goes into their bodies through respiration. It can also happen to people who have great exposure to dust and fiber particles. Those who work in textile mills with plants of fabric manufacturing get affected with this disease very easily. It can also infect person who washes clothes of already infected person. So, if there is a patient of this disease, there must be great care to handle all his belongings separately.
There are many symptoms that can tell you about infection of this disease like pain in chest, sudden weight loss with same eating habits and problem in respiration. It can be diagnosed with chest x-rays and CT-scan. The confirmation however, requires some more procedures like biopsy and other microscopic examinations. Like all other forms of cancer, the ways for its cure includes chemotherapy, disinfection through radiations and surgery. Surgery can be done in particular cases and can’t help at all levels of cancer.
